lcdc. is a small but fast growing design consultancy. Currently based in Shanghai P.R. China, with the world's manufacturers at its finger tips.
lcdc.'s approach to design is to study old habits to develop products that improve user experience. An example: the bamboo relief shelter. It takes the materials and methods that Chinese farmers use to build their green-houses to create a stable inhabitable transitional structure. This boosts the confidence of the villagers when building their own shelters.
Design is about making things better. Better for the people. Better for the world. This is achieved by thorough ethnographic research followed by concept generation. Then, product development in conjunction with our product engineers whilst testing throughout the development process.
To get a fresh perspective on things one must look in new and unexpected places.
Formally trained as a product designer at Central St Martins, University of the Arts London, Luke has always been making things, from sailing boats to clothes to giraffe unicycles and now developing shelters for disaster relief. previously Luke has worked for Michael Sodeau developing exhibition structures and Xindao, a premium gifts/retail company. |
